There’s a moment in this episode where everything turns back.

Not away…
but inward.

Up until now, we’ve been building piece by piece.

  • The gerund.

  • Pronouns.

  • Then combined pronouns.

And now…

we bring reflexive verbs into that same space.

And something subtle happens.

The action doesn’t just move forward anymore.

It returns.

What we explore in this episode

In Episode 24, we saw what happens when:

  • the gerund stands alone

  • and when more than one pronoun is involved

Portandogliele…
Mostrandogliela…

Everything attaches. Everything becomes one word.

But in Episode 25, we ask:

What happens when the verb itself is reflexive?

The key idea

When reflexive verbs meet the gerund…
the same pattern continues.

But with one important shift…
one we introduced earlier.

You may recall that when we combine pronouns,
the first one often changes form.

That’s exactly what’s happening here.

These reflexive pronouns change form:

  • mi → me

  • ti → te

  • si → se

  • ci → ce

  • vi → ve

And then…

everything attaches.

Preparandoselo
Comprandoselo

One word. One flow. One idea.

Grammar in Action

This episode doesn’t stay in theory.

We move through patterns like:

  • Si sta preparando / Sta preparandosi

  • Preparandoselo, pensava al mistero

And then we practice step by step:

  • from Si è vestita

  • to Vestendosi…

  • to full sentences that bring everything together

Returning to the story

And then we step back into Le Pagine del Passato
Capitolo 3, Parte 3: Collegamenti

This time, the language is richer, heavier, and more layered.

You’ll hear:

  • reflexive verbs throughout

  • gerunds woven into the narration

  • and even glimpses of forms we haven’t fully explored yet

Like:

  • aveva curato - trapassato prossimo (past perfect)

  • era diventato - trapassato prossimo (past perfect)

  • come se conservassero - congiuntivo imperfetto (the imperfect subjunctive)

You’re not expected to produce them yet.

But you’re starting to see and hear them.

And that’s where the next stage begins.
